Coaches Code of Conduct

When volunteering to be a head coach, or and assistant coach, for a team in Warren Park Youth Baseball Little League, the following Code of Conduct is required to be reviewed and accepted.  All coaches will be held accountable to this code of conduct throughout the season:

IN MY WORDS AND ACTIONS, I PLEDGE TO:

  1. Recognize that I set the example for our players, parents and other coaches and as such I shall be held to the highest standards for good sportsmanship.
  2. Teach that striving to win is more important than the victory itself and maintain the perspective that baseball is a game to be played for fun.
  3. Reward my players for effort that they have displayed regardless of the final score.
  4. Enthusiastically support and practice the philosophies of positive coaching, good sportsmanship, and everyone plays.
  5. Treat players, coaches and umpires with respect and ensure that I, my players, fellow coach, and volunteers, show respect for our opponents and never verbally ridicule or physically touch another player, coach, or umpire in anger, regardless of the situation or outcome of the game.
  6. Do my best to insure that all my, and my players’, communications with teammates and other members of the Warren Park community, are respectful‐‐whether in person or through digital media (computers, cellphones, Facebook, etc.).
  7. Collaborate actively and respectfully with the umpires and coaches on the other team before, during, and after the game.
  8. Know the rules, and consult those rules before raising rules questions during/after games with other coaches, umpires or the league and emphasize to my players that they must abide by the rules at all times.
  9. Show respect for the calls made by all umpires. When I have valid concerns, I will raise those concerns tactfully between innings or at the end of the game with the umpires in question.
  10. Ensure a safe environment for all players on both teams.
  11. Review the WPYBLL Sportsmanship Pledges for Parents and for Players with all the parents and players on my team, and get their active agreement to follow those pledges during the season.
  12. Be prepared to intervene in any sportsmanship issues caused by the parents or players on my team, before, during or after games. Unless I am able to resolve it on my own, I will report sportsmanship issues with parents, players or other coaches to the league’s Sportsmanship Committee.
  13. Insist on a drug‐, alcohol‐, and tobacco‐free sports environment for all children and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all WPYBLL games, practices and events.

Safety and sportsmanship are integral values of Warren Park Little League.  Any potential violations of this Code of Conduct should be reported to the WPYBLL Board [email protected].  The Board will review the allegation and may impose sanctions as described in the League Sanctions for Violation of Codes of Conduct.
