What's New in 2010
PLEASE NOTE the following important changes we've made for the 2010 Season. Be sure to review the rules carefully for all changes.
1) We've integrated the general league rules into each set of divisional rules.
2) We've renamed the 'slaughter' rule: it is now the 'mercy' rule.
3) We've strengthened rules requiring sliding to avoid contact (Coach Pitch, #12; Rookie, #10; Minor, #12; Major, #13).
4) We've better explained exceptions to maximum runs per inning rule (Coach Pitch, #18; Rookie, #17; Minor, #15; Major, #16, as well as examples at the very end of each division's rules).
Coach Pitch rules changes in 2010:
#2: We've made the timing of the end of games more exact.
#22: At the end of the season, players will be pitching for the first two innings.
Minor and Major rules changes in 2010:
#31 (Minor) and #30 (Major): Farm players will be allowed to play any position.
Rainout Plan
Our general plan is to provide notification of any rainouts by means of the rainout line, text alert system, and the league website by 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and at least 90 minutes before the first game on weekends.

Warren Park Youth Baseball Administrative Rules
Edited 4/2010
1. Regular season standings and seeds for tournament are based on winning percentage, with ties counting as half of a win. The tiebreaker for identical records is first decided by results of head-to-head play. A tie in that category sends it to a run differential in head-to-head play. Another tie results in a coin toss officiated by the Division Coordinator.
2. An official game in Coach-Pitch and Rookie is three complete innings (2-1/2 if home team is ahead). An official game in Minor League is four complete innings (3-1/2 if home team is ahead). An official games Major League games is five complete innings (4 ½ if home team is ahead).
3. Player eligibility for post season tournament: players must have played in at least half of the team’s regular season games.
4. All divisions at WPYBL allow for a girl to have the option of subtracting one year from her age to play in a lower division.
5. Slaughter rule does not apply in the playoffs.

Bat Requirements:
We have adopted new 'bat drop' rules for the 2009 season. The drop of the bat is the difference between the length minus the weight. For example, if a bat is 33" long and it weighs 30 ounces, then the drop is -3.
Most bats are labled, but if you're purchasing a bat some subtraction may be required. Example: A bat 30 inches and 18 ounces or heavier is legal but a bat 30 inches and 17 ounces or lighter is not.
Bat Drop Rules by League:
TBall--no restrictions
Rookie and Coach Pitch:
Maximum 2-1/4 barrel...
NO max on drop.
Minor:
Maximum 2-1/4 inch barrel. Maximum drop -12.
Major:

How to Measure Baseball Gloves
Fielders gloves and first base mitts are measured by starting at the top of the index finger of the glove down the finger along the inside of the pocket and then out to the heal of the glove.
A flexible tape measure has to be used, not a stiff ruler. Measure from the highest point on the glove (normally the index finger). Lay the tape measure across the palm of the glove, so that it folds across and into the indenture, down to the heel of the glove.
Professional baseball has a 12 inch maximum height for a glove, although this rule has not been strictly enforced. |
